Harbour Craft.

I should be most grateful for your assistance

in negotiating with the Ministry of Transport on this

matter.

2.

The grounds for an approach to the Ministry

are set forth in my despatch No. 19 of the 30th.

January, 1948, and to them I can only add that it is

proving increasingly difficult to obtain spares for many of these craft, and that the cost of maintenance

of those which are being retained in service is a

heavy drain.

3.

I trust that it may be found possible for the payment to be scaled down to a figure which accords more with actual value than with a general formula. Such a figure, and it is believed to be a generous one, has been given by the Director of Marine who, as you are aware, is the honorary agent for the Ministry of Transport.
